I don’t know about you, but my weekends sound a lot like: “Let’s do something fun this weekend!” “That sounds good, what are you thinking?” “Hmmm…I’m not sure.” “I’m not sure either.” *Insert far-too-short and boring weekend here*

These three easy-to-plan activities will help you step outside the box and put those boring weekends behind you. 

Pack a Picnic

I know as a child I loved a picnic lunch (or dinner). Picture this: a big, shady tree, oversized blanket, wicker basket and all of your favorite snacks (charcuterie anyone?!) You’re never too old for a picnic. Toss in a bottle of Veuve and some fresh cut flowers for an *extra special* touch. Whether you’re picnic-ing with family, friends or a romantic date, this weekend activity is easy to plan and sure to please! On an island vacation? Take your picnic beachside for an oceanic soundtrack to accompany lunch. On the mainland? A quick google search will help you discover all of your local parks, rivers and shaded areas–you might even find your new favorite spot!

Host a Campfire

Enjoy a campfire for two or invite the neighbors for some roasted marshmallows (s'mores anyone?!) In the Summer, consider it a few hours of citronella-free outdoor time. Winter? Even better! Grab some blankets, cider and get toasty with all of your favorite people. Most importantly, be sure to practice campfire safety–never leave your campfire unattended, always keep water nearby and be sure to distance your fire 15 feet from structures, trees or other flammable materials.

Bonfire attire is easy, casual and comfortable but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style! Oceanside sunsets are some of my personal favorites. Looking for something more active? Research some local summits or walkable peaks to watch the sun go down (and of course, make sure it is safe to descend in low light).
